Ferris Jumah, a former LinkedIn Data Scientist, said the following about our book:
"This book is written by data scientists for data scientists. The Data Science Handbook offers practical, sound advice, from the top industry experts who've collectively shaped data science into what it is today. As a data scientist, I enjoyed the book's deep interviews that cover data science career paths, application, and building data driven cultures/teams in a very relevant fashion. I think that newcomers and experienced practitioners alike will benefit from reading."
The Data Science Handbook
We are a group of four friends and data scientists who spent 2 years finding 25 of the world’s best data scientists, sitting down with them, and having in-depth conversations about their careers, personal stories, perspectives on data science and life advice.
This book is the culmination of all these conversations.
In The Data Science Handbook, you’ll find war stories from DJ Patil, US Chief Data Officer and one of the founders of the field. You’ll learn from industry veterans such as Kevin Novak and Riley Newman, who head the data science teams at Uber and Airbnb. You’ll read about rising data scientists such as Clare Corthell, who crafted her own open source data science masters program.
This book is perfect for aspiring or current data scientists to learn from the best. It’s a reference book packed full of strategies, suggestions and recipes to launch and grow your own data science career.
Pay a Fair Price
Typically, books like this cost between $20 to $30.
However we chose to leave the decision of how much to pay up to you, because:
1) The material in this book is too valuable not to share.
2) The book is based on the generosity of our 25 interviewees. We wanted to pass that generosity along to future data scientists.
3) We're in this to share knowledge with the data science community, and not to turn a profit.
We're making this book Pay a Fair Price, where you can contribute what you want.
We have set a minimum contribution of FREE and a suggested contribution of $19 to cover the time and investment the four of us put into this book.

These folks are working on extremely high-impact projects that appeal to both my inner nerd and humanist. I know exactly where I'll be sending my resume in a year.”
About the Authors
We are four friends who are also data scientists.
We’ve worked in places like Quora, Ayasdi and Etsy. We’ve done things from applying machine learning to public policy under President Obama’s former Chief Scientist to using data-driven methods to find ways to invest multi-billion dollar investment funds.
We hope you enjoy it,
Carl, Max, Henry and Will.
